Avant Garde is the name we give to what is truly "art-house cinema". It's art in that it is often beautiful or impactful to look at, but in my case, I don't quite get it. I feel that it is inappropriate to group it with other types of film and it is more aptly labeled a "form" rather than a genre. To start, it employs very few of the same techniques that are known these days as cinematic staples.
